Nigerians Arrested For Fraud in Singapore

Two Nigerians have been arrested in Singapore for defrauding women in Singapore, the men has been identified as Oladayo Opeyemi Awolola which is 34 years of age and Gbolahan Ayobami Awolola who is 37 years of age, these two are known to defraud local women over there deceiving them with love. They were captured by Malaysian Authority and then sent to Singapore on monday. The two men recruited two Singaporean women to receive money on their behalf, they called them money mules and they have been able to receive Sg$85,700 ($63,000) between 2017 and 2018.

The two men could be jailed up to five years and fined if convicted

It is the first time that suspects based overseas are involved in internet love scams have been arrested and sent to Singapore for prosecution, police said.

Most of the internet love scams reported last year in the city-state involved fraudsters claiming to have sent parcels containing luxury items or money.

Their local accomplices would call the “recipients” and claim the parcels were being held by the authorities for inspection, and would only be released if they transferred money to a bank account.
